Schools are a crucial weapon in the fight against extremism

Schools are a crucial weapon in the fight against extremism

By Lord Nash
Under Secretary of State for the School System

As terror took hold of Westminster earlier this year, nobody could have suspected that it would be the beginning of a series of attacks that would devastate lives and communities across the country.

As a nation, our response to recent attacks in Manchester, London Bridge and Finsbury Park has been to come together and defy those who preach hatred and intolerance with demonstrations of unity, respect and tolerance for others. The things that make Britain such a wonderful country in which to live.

However the threat from extremism – whether it’s from Islamist extremist groups or the far right – remains very real.

Too many innocent people have lost their lives to terror attacks in our country this year. We have had a difficult time and as the Prime Minister made clear enough is enough. Extremism – in any form – must be taken on, challenged and rooted out before any more lives are ruined.
